Niels Otto Møller
Niels Otto Møller is a renowned Danish cabinetmaker, manufacturer, and designer, whose remarkable contributions to 20th-century furniture have created a legacy of exceptional design. His timeless collection of dining chairs, celebrated for their outstanding craftsmanship visual appeal, and comfort, has achieved international acclaim, securing his status among the most important figures in Danish Modernism.
Born in Aarhus in 1920, his passion for furniture design began in his father's furniture workshop, where he developed a strong appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. After studying cabinetmaking and establishing J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in 1944, his dining chairs, introduced in the 1950s, have enchanted collectors and design lovers worldwide. Moreover, his visionary approach to systemizing the production of handmade furniture established him as a highly skilled manufacturer and a pioneer in his field — he was among the first to blend craftsmanship with systematic processes while maintaining the brand's artisan identity. Until his passing in 1982, Niels Otto expanded his collection with new designs while overseeing his factory in Aarhus, serving as the sole designer and manufacturer of the Møller collection throughout his career.
Today, he is celebrated as a master of Danish design and one of the greatest chair craftsmen of his time , with work that continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
