Jørgen Henrik Møller
Born in Aarhus in 1948, Jørgen Henrik Møller is the youngest son of Kirsten and renowned cabinetmaker Niels Otto Møller. Raised within the family’s esteemed furniture workshop, Jørgen was immersed in the art of fine craftsmanship from a young age. By the age of eight, he was already contributing to the company’s production — stamping the Møller logo onto finished chairs, earning 0.10 Danish kroner per piece.
Jørgen’s path into furniture design was both natural and intentional. He began with a formal education in cabinetmaking, followed by advanced technical training in precision machinery. He later earned a degree in architecture from the prestigious Kunsthåndværker School in Copenhagen. During his studies, he designed three notable chair models — No. 401, No. 402, and No. 404 — all of which would go on to become signature pieces in the Møller collection.
In the 1970s, he gained international experience working in a luxury furniture gallery in Bonn, Germany, where he refined his skills in client engagement and deepened his understanding of global design markets. Upon returning to Denmark, Jørgen joined the family business and played a central role in expanding its global reach.
Throughout the 1970s and '80s, Jørgen led the company’s North American development, personally cultivating relationships with over 80 premium dealers across the United States and Canada. His efforts not only elevated the brand's visibility but also established J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik as an international standard-bearer of Danish design and exceptional craftsmanship.
Following the untimely passing of his brother Jens Ole in 1994, Jørgen assumed full leadership of the factory. While based with his family in the United States, he traveled extensively between Europe, Japan, and North America. Despite the growing pressures of globalization within furniture manufacturing, Jørgen remained firmly committed to manufacturing in its original Aarhus facility, even if that meant scaling back on investments and number of employees.
In 2016, after more than five decades of contribution — as a designer, craftsman, and director — Jørgen entrusted the company’s future to his daughter, Kirsten Ann Møller, marking the beginning of the third generation. His enduring legacy lives on not only in the furniture he designed, but in the company’s continued dedication to quality and tradition.
